Location & Places To Visit

The location of the cottage within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, alongside Garsdale station, makes it ideal as a base for walking or for touring both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. Approximately 6 trains per day run from Garsdale Station in either direction and with a ranger ticket you will have unlimited travel on the picturesque Settle - Carlisle railway. During the year there are special steam days.

The nearest town is Hawes, at the head of Wensleydale, it is the highest market town in England. It is the natural centre of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the mid point of the Pennine Way. Visit the Upper Dales Folk Museum, Wensleydale Creamery, and watch the traditional art of Ropemaking . Nearby is Hardraw Force which is the highest single drop waterfall (99ft) in England

Sedbergh, with its cobbled yards and attractive old world atmosphere, is not only set in the magnificent western dales of North Yorkshire but is also close to the rugged eastern fells of the Lake District. An historic town, it has been a staging point for commercial routes across the Pennines since Roman Times.

A short drive away, under the railway bridge, to the south and across Garsdale Moor and Widdale Fell is quiet and unspoilt Dentdale. Dent is a charming little town with its cobbled main street which was once the centre of the knitted woollen stocking industry. A visit to the church is well worth while.
